Local Notes

Kevin Long Passes Away… Sad news out of Columbia yesterday as it was announced that Red Devil and Gamecock great has passed away at the age of 69… After ending his football career at Clinton HS he was a standout for the Gamecocks from 1973-76 where he became the first Gamecock to rush for over a 1000 yards in a season as in 1975 he rushed for 1133 yards… He played for the New York Jets and a couple of teams in the USFL… He was a member of the USC Athletic Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame back in 2017… Click here for more details on him and his career and click here also.

 Clinton HS

  • Clinton at Chapman Tonight… Trying to get ahead of the predicted rain tomorrow, the Red Devils will travel to Chapman to take on the Panthers a foe they have faced many times over the years… The Panthers are 1-2 on the season having defeated St Joseph’s 35-21 but lost to Daniel 41-23 and Boiling Springs 52-7.
  • JV Football: Clinton 14 – Chapman 7… With the varsity football game being moved up 24 hours, the JV football game at Wilder Stadium against Chapman was moved up to last night… Good news for Red Devil fans as the team took a 14-7 win over the Chapman Panthers to run their winning streak t over 45 games (47 or 48)… It was a hard fought game with a lot of hard licks being delivered by both teams….After a scoreless first quarter , the Red Devils struck first on a 9 yd. TD run by Zydarrion Butler with 1:55 left in the half… The two-point conversion failed so the score stood 6-0 Red Devils which was the score at the half… The Clinton defense scored also as with 4:15 left in the third quarter they caused the Panther runner to fumble, and A’Javian James picked it up and scored from about the Chapman 21-yard line… The two-point conversion was good as Own Glenn connected with Damarius Griffin with a short pass to make it 14-0 Red Devils…The Panthers finally got on the scoreboard with 2:17 left in the game on a 22-yard TD pass… The Red Devils will host Daniel at 6:00 pm a week from today.
