Local Notes

 Clinton HS

  • Girls Tennis… I need to do some catching up on the girls’ tennis team at Clinton HS where they have played 2 matches.
    • Chapin 7 – Clinton 0… The Lady Red Devils opened their season on Thursday, Sept. 5th down at Chain HS… The Red Devils fell to the Eagles by a score of 7-0 to a traditionally strong Chapin team… For more details on this match, click here
    • Clinton 6 – Fairfield Central 0… The Red Devils rebounded this past Tuesday taking a 6-0 win over the Fairfield Central Griffins down in Winnsboro… Each of the Red Devil singles players and the #2 doubles team took one sided wins…  For more details on this match click here.
    • Up Next… The team will have its first home match of the season as the host the Columbia Capitals on the courts at Clinton MS at 5:00 pm today… Come out and cheer them on.

Laurens HS

  • Girls Tennis
    • Greenwood 4 – Laurens 3… Last week the lady Raider tennis team hosted the Greenwood Eagles and fell to the Eagles 4-3 in a very hard fought match… For more details on this match click here.
    • Fury – Raiders ????… The Raiders and the Fountain Inn Fury were scheduled to play this past Tuesday in a region match… I do not know if they played or it was postponed…If I find out I will let you know.
    • Up Next… The Raiders are scheduled to host the Southside Tigers today in a region match at 4:30… If you get a chance, come out and cheer on the Raider girls’ tennis team as they are improving.

Laurens Academy

  • Volleyball Host Newberry… The Crusader volleyball team is now 14-3 on the season and 2-0 in region play… They get back into region play today (9-19) at 5:00 pm as they host the Newberry Eagles.

Thornwell

  • Middle School Football at Laurens Middle School… The Saints middle school football team will travel to Laurens MS today at 5:00 pm to take on the Tigers.

Laurens County Touchdown Club

  • The next meeting of the Laurens County Touchdown Club will be today at noon at The Ridge on Exchange Drive…  The local high school coaches will report on their last two games and about the games tomorrow night… Nemo Fernandez of Laurens and Javen Cook of Clinton will be honored as the last two weeks Player of the Week… Coach Clay Hendrix of Furman will be the featured speaker… The cost is only $15 and you can pay at the door… Hope to see you there!

  • FBS AP Poll… The latest FBS AP Poll has a few changes in the top 5… Georgia has dropped from #1 to #2 and Texas has moved up a spot to #1… Ohio State is still #3, Alabama #4 and Ole Miss #5… Spots 6-10 also had changes and are now occupied by Tennessee, Missouri, Miami (FL), Oregon and Penn State… Clemson moved up a spot to #21… To see the entire top 25 AP Poll click here

  • Braves 7 – Reds 1… After losing a heartbreaker 6-5 to the Reds Tuesday night, the Braves rebounded last night to take a 7-1 win… They simply outhit the Reds 10-5 and out-homered them 2-0… Marcell Ozuna (38) and Michael Harris II (13) both had solo homers in the game… Ozuna led the Braves attack going 3 for 4 at the plate with a double, the homer and 2 RBIs… The rubber game of the series will be today at 1:10 pm EDT.

NASCAR

  • Chris Buescher Wins at Watkins Glenn… Last Sunday over up at Watkins Glenn, Chris Buescher took an overtime win on the road course passing Shan van Gisbergen on the last lap to take the win of the second playoff rave in the Cup Series… For more information as to who was leading at the suspension of the race click here.
  • Playoffs…  Now that the regular season is finished, the 16 Cup Drivers have made the playoffs and are in the Chase for the Cup Championship are now locked in… Joey Logano still leads in the playoff standings. ..
