Clinton HS
- Red Devil Volleyball… I need to do some catching up with the Red Devils volleyball team which played 3 matches last week.
- Clinton 3 – Laurens 1… Monday (9-16-24) at home the Red Devils took a 3-1 win over the Raiders to claim the County Championship for this season as they defeated Laurens 3-1 at Laurens earlier in the season… The Red Devils won the first two sets by scores of 28-26, 25-23… The Raiders fought back to take the third set 25-19 but the Red Devils closed it out winning the fourth set 25-16 to conclude a very hard-fought match… For more stats on the Red Devils in this match click here…. - Clinton 3 – Fairfield Central 0… On Tuesday the Red Devils traveled to Winnsboro to take on the Griffins of Fairfield Central… Good news here also as they took a 3-0 win… Set scores were a little one-sided as Clinton won by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-6… Click here to see more Red Devil stats in this match.
- Clinton 3 – Columbia 0… The Red Devils closed out the week on Thursday (9-19) hosting the Capitals of Columbia HS and rolling over them by a 3-0 score… again set scores were a little one-sided as the Red Devils won 25-5, 25-7 and 25-7… Again to see more Clinton stats on this match click here…. JV Results… The JV team also defeated the Capitals 2-0 and I do not have any other details on that match.
- Up Next… The Red Devils are now 8-2 overall and 2-0 in region play and will travel to Chester today to take on the Cyclones in a region match… Go Big Red!

- Up Next for Red Devil Football… The Red Devils return home this Friday night for their last non-region game with the Union County Yellow Jackets… It is also Homecoming.
Laurens HS 
- Homecoming Parade Photos… The Homecoming Parade was held on Monday, 9-13-2024… The Raider band, class representative, cheerleaders, and athletic team members all participated in the parade… To see a slideshow of some photos taken at the parade click here.
- Raider Volleyball… I also need to do some catching up with the Raider volleyball and their action last week… Look above in the Clinton volleyball portion of this report to see how they did against the Red Devils.
- Tuesday: Raiders 3 – Southside 0… Last Tuesday (9-17) the Raiders rebounded from their tough loss to Clinton on Monday and took a 3-0 win over region foe Southside at home… Set scores were 25-15, 25-3 and 25-6…. JV Results… The JV team also defeated Southside by a score of 2-0… Set scores were 25-7 and 25-11.
- Thursday: Wren 3 – Raiders 0… On Thursday the Raiders traveled to Wren HS to take on the Golden Hurricanes in region action… The Hurricanes were a little too string for the Raiders as they took a 3-0 win with set scores of 25-10, 25-9 and 25-13.
- Up Next for Volleyball… The Raiders will be hosting the Rams of Westside HS tonight at 7:00 pm in region action.
- Up Next for Raider Football… As most Raider fans know, the Raiders were off Friday night and the off week comes at a good time as the Raiders who are plagued with injuries need that time to get some players well… The will be back in action this Friday night when the host the Lexington Wildcats at KC Hanna Stadium and it will be Homecoming.
- Fall Ticketing Information and Other Need to Know Venue Information… The Raiders have released information concerning tickets and other rules and regulations you need to know about before you go to any athletic events on campus this fall… This information also includes a parking map… Please check this out to save you some problems before you go… Click here to see that information.

- Garrison Vaughn TD Club Player of the Week… Monday it was announced that Garrison Vaughn has been chosen as this week’s Laurens County Touchdown Club’s Player of the week for his contributions in the Crusaders 52-36 win over WW King at Todd Kirk Field last Friday night… This win was the Crusaders first the Knights in several years and they are now 4-2 on the season… The junior who plays on the offensive line helped the Crusaders amass 448 yards of total offense… He also plays on defense where he had 10 total tackles including 6 tackles for loss and had a huge blocked punt on special teams… Head Coach Jolly Doolittle stated, “Garrison is everything you want in an offensive and defensive lineman. He is tough and relentless, smart and precise, and an unselfish leader on the team.”… He will be honored at the club’s next meeting which will be on Thursday, Oct.4th at noon at The Ridge on Exchange Drive where the guest speaker will be Coach Mike Ayers, former head football coach at Wofford College and South Carolina Football Hall of Fame member,
Laurens County Touchdown Club
- The Laurens County Touchdown Club held its most current meeting last Thursday, 9-19 at The Ridge on Exchange Drive… Nemo Fernandez of Laurens and Javen Cook of Clinton were honored as the last two weeks Player of the Week… Coach Clay Hendrix of Furman was the featured speaker… If you would like to see a video of that meeting, click here.

- FBS AP Poll… The latest FBS AP Poll has a few changes in the top 5… Georgia has dropped from #1 to #2 and Texas has moved up a spot to #1… Ohio State is still #3, Alabama #4 and Ole Miss #5… Spots 6-10 also had changes and are now occupied by Tennessee, Missouri, Miami (FL), Oregon and Penn State… Clemson moved up a spot to #21… To see the entire top 25 AP Poll click here
- FCS Coaches Poll… The FCS Coaches Poll continues to have South Dakota State and North Dakota State ranked #1 & #2… In our general area, Mercer checked in at #16 and UT Chattanooga comes in at #24 (down from #16)… To see the entire FCS Coaches Poll click here.

Atlanta Braves… The Braves were down in Miami for a 3-game series with the Marlins over the weekend.
- Friday: Marlins 4 – Braves 3… On Friday the marlins won the first game of the series taking a 4-3 win… They scored 3 runs in the first inning and then held on to take the win… The Braves outhit the Marlins 9-8 and out-homered them 2-0 but just could not get other clutch hits when needed…. Orlando Arcia (17) had a solo homer in the game as did Ramón Laureano (10).
- Saturday: Braves 6 – Marlins 2… Saturday the Braves rebounded to take a 6-2 win by simply outhitting the Marlins 14-6… They broke the game open scoring 7 runs in the 7th inning… Jorge Soler (21) had a solo homer for the Braves while both Matt Olson (29) and Gio Urshela (7) both had 2-run homers.
- Sunday: Braves 5 – Marlins 4… Sunday the Braves took the third game of the series by a score of 5-4 thus winning the series 2-1… They simply outhit the Marlins 11-2 and had 2 homers in the game… Ozzie Albies (9) had a solo shot as did Gio Urshela (8)… The marlins themselves had 3 homers in the game.
- Up Next… The Braves have the night off and will start a critical 3-game series with the Mets in Atlanta Tuesday night as they need to win those games to have a chance to make it into the playoffs as a wild card team.

- Kyle Larson Dominates at Bristol… Kyle Larson led 462 of the 500 laps in the cup series race at Bristol last Saturday… He finished more than 7 seconds ahead of second place finisher Chase Elliott … For more information as to who was leading at the suspension of the race click here.
- Playoffs… At the end of the race the field of 16 eligible for the title was cut to 12… Ty Gibbs, Martin Truex Jr., Brad Keselowski and Harrison Burton were eliminated… … Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell and Tyler Reddick now are the top 3three in the playoff standings. ..
