Sports Report for Thursday, 9-26-2024

Local Notes

Schedule Changes Due to Weather…. The threat of bad weather from tropical storm / hurricane Helene is causing high school and middle school football schedules to be adjusted… Below is what I know about some of those changes at the time of this posting

  • Clinton HS… The varsity game is still on for Friday night with Union County is still on as is Homecoming… If that changes I will let you know… However the JV football game at Union has been moved up to tonight at 6:00 pm on the campus at Union County HS.
  • Laurens Academy… The Crusaders are still planning on hosting Newberry Academy this Friday night… If they are forced to change that they will make the game up on October 18th which at this time is scheduled to be a bye week for the Crusaders.

Clinton HS

  • JV Football: Clinton 32 – Union 8… The Red Devil JV football team traveled over to Union County HS yesterday and came home with a 32-8 win over the Yellow Jackets… At this time that I have no other details on the game but if Coach Glenn send me some I will be sure to pass them on to you..
  • Up Next for Red Devil Football… The Red Devils return home this Friday night for their last non-region game with the Union County Yellow Jackets… It is also Homecoming.

Laurens HS

  • Lexington 29 – Laurens 0… The Raiders were at home last night taking on the Lexington Wildcats in their last non-region game of the session… Lexington won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball to start the game but the Raiders surprised everyone as they recovered an onside kick to start the game… After that, very few things went the Raiders way.
    • The Raiders had trouble moving the ball as the Lexington defensive line won the battle at the line of scrimmage more often than not… The Raiders were forced to try a field goal at the end of that first possession but missed it.
    • Lexington scored first early in the second quarter on a 28 yard run by Matthew McCaulay but the PAT was blocked by Javaye Suber… The Wildcats other score in the first half came on a 31 yard field goal just before the end of the half.
    • Lexington came out and scored 3 times in the third quarter twice on runs and once on a pass to take a 29-0 lead which they would protect the rest of the way..
    • The Raiders finished with 108 yards of total offense (47 yards rushing) to the Wildcats 193 yards (129 rushing)
    • Ze’Mar Jones had 44 yards rushing to lead the Raiders rushing attack and Will Thompson went 5 for 8 with 1 interception and 54 yards in the Raiders passing attack

    • The Raiders will host the Fountain Inn Fury Friday, October 4th and it will be Homecoming.

  • Laurens Academy 44 – Wardlaw 16… I don’t have any other information other than the score in middle school football action involving the Crusaders, but its goo news as the Crusaders took a 44-16 win over Wardlaw… Thanks to Jessie Tarver for getting that score to me.
