Local Notes
Clinton HS
- Union Football Game Cancelled… The Red Devils really wanted to host the Union County Yellow Jackets last Friday night for homecoming but it just was not to be… Impassable roads or dangerous roads plus a lack of electricity caused the game to be cancelled and there are no plans to make it up… The notice I received did not say anything about Homecoming… If it is rescheduled I will pass that information on to you.
- Up Next in Football… As the football schedule now stands and if damage from Helene allows, the Red Devils are scheduled to open up their region schedule on the road at Liberty HS this Friday taking on another set of Red Devils at 7:30 pm.
Laurens HS

- Crusaders Postpone Game with WW King… Last Thursday afternoon the Crusaders decided to postpone their game with the King Academy Knights until October 18th when the Crusaders had a bye week built into their schedule… It’s my understanding that SCISA had a bye week built into everyone’s schedule for situations like this… Not a bad idea… Homecoming was scheduled Friday night and though I have not been told so official, I do believe it will be rescheduled for October 18th also as the Crusaders are on the road for the next two weeks.
- Up Next in Football… The Crusader’s schedule shows that they are supposed to be the road traveling to Wardlaw for a region game at 7:30 pm…Again this is all dependent on whether or not it is safe to do so and the power situation.

Atlanta Braves… After having the last two games with the Mets rained out Wednesday and Thursday last week the Braves hosted the Kansas City Royals in a very important series to end the regular season that will have an impact on whether the injury riddled Braves will make the playoffs.
- Friday: Braves 3 Royals 0… The Braves only outhit the Royals 4-3 Friday night but one of their 4 hits was a 2-run homer by Sean Murphy (10) in the bottom of the 4th inning and the Braves behind Max Fried’s (11-10) 8⅔ inning pitching gem that saw him strike out 9 and walk just 2 would be all the runs the Braves would need.
- Saturday: Braves 2 – Royals 1…On Saturday the Braves took a walk off 2-1 win as Travis d’Arnaud (15)hit a 1 out, 2-0 pitch over the fence in center field and the celebration was on… The Braves other run was scored in the bottom of the 4th inning when one of the two errors the Royals had in the game cost them… Reynaldo Lopez got the start after a couple of weeks on the injured list and pitched 6 strong innings giving up the 1 earned run on 2 hits while striking out 9 and walking none.
- Sunday: Royals 4 – Braves 2… The Royals scored 3 runs in the first inning Sunday and made them standup as they took a 4-2 win over the Braves in the final game of the 3-game series…. Michael Massey had a 3-run homer for the Royals to provide those 3 runs… Atlanta actually outhit the Royals 8-5 in the game… One of the Braves 8 hits was a solo homer by Gio Urshela (9) in the 3rd inning.
- Up Next for the Braves… There are 3 teams tied for the last two wildcard spots in the playoffs… They are the Braves, Mets and D-Backs… The Mets will be back in Atlanta today to play the 2 games postponed by Helene last week… As I understand it, the Braves need to win 1 of the 2 game to assure a wildcard spot and both to improve their seeding… For more information on how these two games will determine wildcard spots better than I can click here.
