Some High School Coaches Hoping for Extension of Season… Some high school coaches around the state are hoping that the SCHSL will consider extending the season a week or two to help make up already postponed game caused by Hurricane Helene and other that might have to be postponed this week due to conditions that still exist after the hurricane… This would not be unprecedented as just such a thing happened back in 2015… There is a nice article about this in the State Newspaper that includes comments from Jerome Singleton Commissioner of the SCHSL and others… To read that article click here…. I have ever since 2015 advocated a remedy for this problem that so far no coach I have mentioned it to have disliked… If you are curious about my proposal click here… I would be curious on your thoughts about it.
Clinton HS
- Schedule Changes at CHS… Hurricane Helene continues to play havoc on athletic schedules in the area… Yesterday CHS Athletic Director Louis Alexander passed on the following information about athletic contest for the CHS teams.
- Thursday (10-3)
- JV football vs Liberty cancelled
- Varsity volleyball vs. Fairfield Central yet to be determined
- Girls Tennis vs. Fairfield Central yet to be determined
- Friday (10-4)… The varsity football at Liberty has been postponed… No makeup date has been announced as of this ,posting
- Saturday (10-5)… Cross country at Riverside yet to be determined
- Thursday (10-3)

Laurens HS
- All Athletics Events Postponed… Tuesday I received a text from Tommy Spires that all athletic events in Laurens District 55 for the rest of this week (including Saturday) have been postponed… Note this includes all middle school athletics as well.
- Up Next in Football… As the football schedule now stands and if damage from Helene allows, the Raiders are scheduled to open up their region schedule at home taking on the Southside Tigers at 7:30 pm on Friday, 10-11-24 if they stick to the schedule and do not make up the Fountain Inn Fury first…. Also, Homecoming which was scheduled for this Friday is postponed and a date for it is still to be determined.
- Fall Ticketing Information and Other Need to Know Venue Information… The Raiders have released information concerning tickets and other rules and regulations you need to know about before you go to any athletic events on campus this fall… This information also includes a parking map… Please check this out to save you some problems before you go… Click here to see that information.

- Up Next in Football… The Crusader’s schedule shows that they are supposed to be the road traveling to Wardlaw for a region game at 7:30 pm…Again this is all dependent on whether or not it is safe to do so and the power situation.
Laurens County Touchdown Club
- Touchdown Club Cancels Meeting This Week… In light of the devastating storm and the wellbeing of our patrons and players/coaches the TD Club is going to cancel the scheduled TD Club meeting scheduled for this Thursday, October 3… We hopefully will resume at our next regularly scheduled meeting on October 17.

PC Notes
- Football: Davidson 48 – PC 37… In case you missed it, the PC football team did something unusual last weekend…. They played on Sunday and at an opponent they were supposed to be hosting… Because of Helene the game was moved to Davidson instead of PC because the condition around PC were just not suitable…By the way the Wildcats took a 48-37 win as the Blue Hose were down 35-6 at one point in the third quarter and PC rallied but came up short…Click on the score at the start of this section for more information on the game.
- Men’s Basketball Schedule Released… I know for certain that we have some real college basketball junkies out there and to help you make it to the start of basketball season I’ll mention to you that the PC men’s basketball team has released its schedule for the upcoming seasons… There will be 13 home games in the schedule and opponents include NC State, Miami, and South Carolina… Click here for more information on the upcoming season and schedule.

- FBS AP Poll… The latest FBS AP Poll (9-29-24) had some major changes in the top 10 after Alabama’s 41-34 win over Georgia Saturday night… Texas dropped from #1 to #2 despite not losing… Ohio state remains at #3, Tennessee moved up a spot to #4 and Georgia drops to #5… Oregon jumped 2 spots to #6, Penn State also jumped 2 spots to #7, Miami (FL) dropped a spot to #8, Missouri went from #11 to #9 and Michigan jumped up 2 spots to #10… Clemson moved up to #15 from #17… To see the entire top 25 AP Poll click here
- FCS Coaches Poll… The FCS Coaches Poll (9-30-24) continues to have South Dakota State and North Dakota State ranked #1 & #2… In our general area, Mercer moved up to #11and they are the only team you often see on the schedule of some our local teams in the top 25… To see the entire FCS Coaches Poll click here.

Atlanta Braves
- Padres5 – Braves 4… The Braves saw their season come to an end last night out in San Diego as the Padres won 5-4 to eliminate the Braves from the playoffs in the best of 3 series… The Braves took an early 1-0 lead scoring a single run on a sacrifice fly by Marcel Ozuna that drove in Michael Harris II who doubled to start of the game… The Padres scored all 5 of their runs in the 2nd inning after 2 were out… They used a homer, 3 singles, a double and a triple to score their 5 runs off Max Fried who took the loss for Atlanta… To their credit the Braves did fight back but came up short… Jorge Soler had a solo homer in the 5th inning and Michael Harris II had a 2-run homer in the 8th inning but went down in order in the 9th inning to make the final 5-4 Padres… Michael Harris II had 3 of the Braves 6 hits in the game.
- Postseason Schedule… In addition to the Padres, the Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals both punched their tickets to the next round of the playoffs… The only series left is the one between the Mets and the Brewers and it will be finished tonight…. NASCAR
- Ross Chastain Wins Cup Race in Kansas… Ross Chastain had not won a race all season until Sunday when he too the win in the Cup Series Race out in Kanas… He only led 52 of the 267 laps but all he really needed to lead was the last one which he did… He finished just 0.388 seconds ahead of William Byron… For more information about this click here.
