Laurens Academy

  • Crusader Volleyball Team Wins Class 2A Championship…The Crusader volleyball team traveled down to Cardinal Newman HS in the Columbia area last night to take on the Kings Academy Lions out of the Florence area… When the last volley was over, the Crusaders were able to celebrate their third State Championship in as many years as they took a 3-0 win over the Lions… The Crusaders dominated the first set taking a 25-10 win… The Crusaders continued to control the tempo of the match in the second set as they rolled to a 25-14 win… To their credit, the Lions did not go quietly into the good night as they fought back in the third set and took a brief lead and kept the match closer but the Crusaders would not be denied as they took a 25-19 win and the celebration was on… The Crusaders finish the season with a great 28-3 record… It was a great way to send out the Crusades 2 seniors Olivia Suttles, Cadie Wilson and Maggie Collins … Congratulations to the Crusaders for the 3-peat!… Can we say 4-peat?

  • Up Next… The Saints now await the final outcome in region standings as there are a few makeup games to be played by other schools in the region this week… It’s possible that there may be a tie between the Saints and another region team for a seeding spot in the playoffs and if that is the case the tie-breaking match will most likely be played early next week as the SCHSL Playoffs are set to begin Thursday of next week on Halloween, October 31st.
