  • Volleyball: Clinton 3 – Mid-Carolina 2… Catching up with the Clinton Red Devil volleyball team, I do believe that their match at home last Thursday with the Mid-Carolina Rebels was their final regular season match… This was a tough match for the Red Devils but in the end they won by a score of 3-2… The Red Devils won the first set 25-21 but the Rebels came back and won the next 2 sets by a score of 25-16 in each of them… With the Red Devils now facing a loss, they came back and took the 4th set by a score of 25-19 forcing a fifth and deciding set which they won 15-6 to take the 3-2 win.
  • Region Champions… Now congratulations are due to the Red Devil varsity volleyball team as they captured with an undefeated region record… They await the start of the SCHSL Class AA Playoffs that will begin one week from today (Halloween)… Congratulations and Good Luck to the Red Devils… Go Big Red!
  • Pitts Named to Touchstone Energy Bowl Roster… The Touchstone Energy Bowl (North-South All-Star Game0 will be held in Myrtle Beach again this year on Saturday, December 21st… Unlike the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, one of our Laurens County football players has made the roster for the North Squad… That person is Cal Pitts one of the outstanding senior offensive linemen on the Red Devils football team… This is quite an honor and congratulations to Cal!

Laurens Academy

  • Crusader Volleyball Team Wins Class 2A Championship…The Crusader volleyball team traveled down to Cardinal Newman HS in the Columbia area last night to take on the Kings Academy Lions out of the Florence area… When the last volley was over, the Crusaders were able to celebrate their third State Championship in as many years as they took a 3-0 win over the Lions… The Crusaders dominated the first set taking a 25-10 win… The Crusaders continued to control the tempo of the match in the second set as they rolled to a 25-14 win… To their credit, the Lions did not go quietly into the good night as they fought back in the third set and took a brief lead and kept the match closer but the Crusaders would not be denied as they took a 25-19 win and the celebration was on… The Crusaders finish the season with a great 28-3 record… It was a great way to send out the Crusades 2 seniors Olivia Suttles, Cadie Wilson and Maggie Collins … Congratulations to the Crusaders for the 3-peat!… Can we say 4-peat?

Thornwell

  • Up Next for Volleyball… The Saints now await the final outcome in region standings as there are a few makeup games to be played by other schools in the region this week… It’s possible that there may be a tie between the Saints and another region team for a seeding spot in the playoffs and if that is the case the tie-breaking match will most likely be played early next week as the SCHSL Playoffs are set to begin Thursday of next week on Halloween, October 31st.

Laurens County Touchdown Club

  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club met last Thursday, 10-17-24 at noon out at The Ridge on Exchange Drive… The three latest TD Clubs Players of the Week were honored and they were Garrison Vaughn of Laurens Academy, Logan Martin of Laurens HS and Tushawan Richardson of Clinton HS… Along with the local coaches, the featured speaker was Mike Ayers former Wofford coach and South Carolina Football Hall of Fame member…. Middle School Football… To see the middle school master school football schedule click here… Please remember these schedules can change right up to game day without my knowing about it.

  • Laurens MS 52 – Hickory Tavern 8… One of the middle school game to report on from yesterday afternoon and that id the Hickory Tavern Panthers taking on the Laurens MS Tigers at Laurens MS… The tigers won the toss and elected to receive and Mason Young returned the opening kickoff 55 yds. for the score with Lagan Bragg adding the 2-point conversion to make it 8-0 with just seconds off the clock and the Tigers then rolled on to a 52-8 win over the Panthers… Two main things to know about the game… One is that the Tigers scored every time they had the ball and number 2 is that the Tiger offensive and defensive line were more than the Panthers could handle…The Tigers led 44-0 at the half and there was a running clock in the second half…
    • Young also scored on a pair of passes from Logan Bragg one a 10 yd. pass and the other a 15 yd. pass.
    • KB Bryson scored on a 41 yd. run and also on a 34 yd. pick six.
    • Mason Dial also caught a 35 yd. TD pass from Bragg.
    • Logan Bragg also had a 46 yd. TD run in addition to the TD passes he threw.
    • The Panthers only score came at the end of their last possession of the game 45 yd. run by #51 whose number and name were not on the Panther roster that I have.
  • MS Games Today according to master schedule:
    • Dixie at Thornwell (5:30)
    • Gray Court-Owings at Ware Shoals (5:30)
