Bottom line… Go Big Red!

  • Cross Country Host County Championship… The Red Devils cross country teams hosted the County Championships yesterday.
    • Girls Take Title… The Lady Red Devils took the County Championship kind of by default as neither Laurens HS, Laurens Academy or Thornwell had less than the needed 5 runners to contend for the title… Elizabeth Reid was the top runner for the Red Devils with a time of 23:05… For more on this and to see how the other Red Devil runners did click here.
    • Boys Win in Tiebreaker…  The boys match was a close one as when all the runners had finished the Red Devils and the Raiders had both finished in a tie (28-28)… Normally you only count a team’s top 5 runners to figure their score but in a case where there is a tie like yesterday, they add in the 6th and 7th place runners for the two tied teams and in doing that yesterday the Red Devils came out on top… The top finisher for the Red Devils was William Reid who set a new course record finishing in 16:32… The top finisher for the Raiders was Cody Patterson who finished with a time of 17:32… For more information on this meet including those who were named All-County Runners click here…Congratulations to the Red Devils.

Middle School Football… To see the middle school master school football schedule click here… Please remember these schedules can change right up to game day without my knowing about it… Results from KC Hanna Stadium yesterday

  • Gray Court-Owings 28 – Hickory Tavern 14… The GCO Tigers took a 28-14 win over the HT Panthers in the first game yesterday to claim the “Country Championship”… The Panthers played hard but had too many mistakes in the game and more often than not the Tigers turned them into points… How it happened:
    • The Tigers Mason Lang ran the opening kickoff back 70 yards for a score to make 6-0 GCO as the 2-point conversion failed.
    • The Panthers answered driving 60 yards in 11 plays and scoring on a 3 yard run by Omar Almanza… Shamere Grant added the 2-point conversion to make it 8-6 Panthers.
    • Not to be outdone, the Tigers scored on their next possession on a 5 yard run by Lang. The 2-point conversion failed so the score stood 12-8 GCO with 3:31 left in the 1st quarter.
    • Neither team scored again in the first half as penalties helped to stop their drives.
    • The Panthers fumbled away the ball on the 4th play of the second half as Wesley Collins recovered for Sanders…A few plays later Collins was intercepted by the Panthers Almanza… The turnover bug in the form of a fumble bit the Panthers 3 plays later and it was recovered by the Tigers at the Panthers 23 yard line and 2 plays later the Tigers Wesley Collins completed a 27 yard pass to Malachi Brown for a TD… Collins added the 2point conversion to make it 20-8 Tigers with 5:19 left in the game.
    • The Panthers responded driving 70 yards and scoring on a 46 yard pass from Sam Parsons to Brent Ludwig to make the score 20-14 as GCO as the 2-point conversion failed with 3:15 left in the game.
    • The Panthers recovered the ensuing onside kick and took over on the Tiger 49 yard line… Two plays later with extreme pressure from 2 Tiger defensive lineman in his face, Parson pass went off the hands of the intended receiver into the hands of the Tigers Mason Lang for a pick-six and Collins added the 2-point conversion to make the final score 28-14 Tigers as the Panthers could not move the ball in the little time reaming in the game.

  • Laurens MS 40 – Sanders 6… In the last game of the day at KC Hanna Stadium the Laurens MS Tigers took a 40-6 win over the Sanders Yellow Jackets to claim the “City Championship”… The Yellow Jackets scored first in the game to make it 6-0 but the Tigers roared back and shut them out the rest of the way to take the win… How it happened:
    • The Yellow Jacket scored the first time they had the ball on a 4 yard run by Travion Robinson but the 2-point conversion failed so they led (for the only time in the game) 6-0with 2:47 left in the first quarter… Little did they know that that would be their only score of the game.
    • The Tigers went right back down the field and scored on a 19 yard run by KB Bryson… Logan Bragg added the 2-point conversion to make it make it 8-6 tigers with just under 40 seconds to play in the first quarter.
    • Sanders turned the ball over on downs on their next possession so the Tigers took over at the Yellow Jacket 47 yard line…Eight plays later Bragg carried it in from the 4 yard line and Shamere Robinson added the 2-point conversion to make it 16-6 LMS.
    • On the first play from scrimmage, the Yellow Jackets had a pass picked off by the Tigers Logan Bragg and returned to the Sanders 19 yard line… Two plays later Bragg carried it in from the 10 yard line and Bryson added the 2point conversion to make it 24-6 with 8.7 seconds left in the half and that was the score at the half.
    • The Yellow Jacket got the ball first to start the 2nd half but could not move the ball and turned it over on downs at their own 45 yard line… The Tigers then scored on a 10 yard run by KB Bryson and the 2-point conversion came on a pass from Logan Bragg to Mason Young to make the score 32-6 with 3:20 left in the 3rd quarter.
    • Again the Yellow Jackets could get no traction against the tough Tiger defense and turned the ball over on downs at their own 46 yard line… The Tigers then went on down the field and scored on a 6 yard pass from Bragg to Miles Crow and added the 2-point conversion on a pass from Bragg to Aadyn Jenkins to make the score 40-6 which would be the final.
