Yesterday marked the biggest Laurens County voter turnout in the memory of most folks at the Elections Office last night. 30,273 Laurens County voters cast ballots in the 2024 General Election, representing a turnout of 75.99%.
This virtual 76% turnout included the 29% who cast votes in Early Voting. Laurens County Elections Commission Chair William Adair noted the first ever Early Voting in a General Election helped get the overall numbers up, perhaps taking some stress from the operations on election day.
A long-time Laurens County Council member lost a re-election bid. Diane Anderson lost a re-election to the District 6 Seat to challenger Arthur Lee Philson Jr. Philson won the seat with an unofficial total of 1,831 votes to 1,387 for Anderson. Philson told WLBG last night he’ll be speaking with fellow council members about improved emergency services in his district, including Cross Hill.
With just under 82% of votes counted, Sheri Biggs won the District 3 Congressional Seat with over 205,000 votes, just under 72% of those cast in the 3-way race.
Senator Danny Verdin received 71% of votes cast for re-election to the State Senate from Senate District 9. Laurens County’s unofficial vote total last night gave him 21,283 votes to Mr. Drigger’s 7,954 That was the bulk of the district-wide vote as of results posted as of 10 last night.
House Seat 42 Representative Doug Gilliam won both Laurens and Union County votes for re-election yesterday In Laurens County, the final was 1,204 for Gilliam and 765 for Gossett. Union County reported 6,304 for Gilliam to 2,824 for Gossett, with 11 of 21 precincts reporting.
Republican John McCravy won the SC House Seat 13, with about 75% of the votes cast – 15,855 to 5,335 for Democrat Bill Kimler.
Sean McCarthy won Seat 4 on the District 56 School Board with 335 votes to 289 for Charles Stinson.
These votes are unofficial until the Laurens County Elections Commission conducts a Canvas of the votes later this week.
Finally, Donald Trump won the Laurens County vote with a margin of 21,048 votes to 7,824 for Kamala Harris.
