Laurens HS

  • Raiders Host Fountain Inn on Senior Night… The raiders will finish the regular season tonight hosting the Fountain Inn Fury and it will also be Senior Night… The Raiders will honor their 20 seniors before the game…. This is a very critical game for the raiders as they have a shot at making the playoffs based on their RPI ranking (see below)… The Fury come into the game with a 5-4 overall record and 1-3 in region play… The Fury are averaging 31.8 points per game and giving up 29.1 points per game… To see the schedule and scores for the Fury click here… We will start our coverage of the game with the Friday Night Insiders at 6:20 pm today.

  • JV Football: Laurens 29 – Fountain Inn 0… The Raider JV football team closed out its season last night as they travel to Fountain Inn to take on the Fury…  Good news for raiders fans as the team took a 29-0 win over the Fury … The following information was provided by Coach Jawon Stevens… “The defense DOMINATED!! They held Ft Inn to minimal yards with our starters in… They were able to move the ball in the 4th Quarter, but the defense forced a turnover… Nasir Sanders had a pick (an interception)… Everyone made plays to contribute to the effort on defense. .. We played solid all night on offense!   We had several explosive plays… Had a couple touchdowns called back, but they didn’t panic… Buddy Cheeks lead the offense at the QB spot with timely runs when passing plays broke down… He was great reading the Zone (defense) and making the correct decisions… Finding the endzone were BJ Hill, Isai Fernandez, Crooks and AJ Mumford…  Two-point conversions (were made) by Buddy and JJ Bennett….Kevy Velasco handles kickoffs and punts… His kicks gave the coverage teams time to get down the field all night… Good kicks all night on a wet surface… Khamarius Moore came in and led the final scoring drive at Quarterback… Fun night to see this crew finish the season with a shutout victory! ”… Congratulation to the JV team on a winning season and especially on improving as the season went along after a rocky start!

  • Class 4A Upper State RPI… I think most Raider fans know that the teams making the playoff sin Class 5A and 4A this year will not be done by region standings alone… They ae using the RPI system as determined by MaxPreps ant the top 16 teams in the upper state and lowers state will ,make the playoffs… Below is the latest RPI for the upper state 4A teams… You will note that Laurens is #16 at this time and would make the playoffs if the teams were selected today based on this present RPI… However, a loss to Fountain Inn Friday night could put the Raiders below the “cut line”… That is why I want to encourage all the “true” Raider fans to make plans to come out to KC Hanna Stadium tomorrow night to cheer the Raiders on as they try to “lock down” a playoff position…. Note: the arrows and numbers beside some of the teams indicate that they have moved up or down and by how many positions since the previous RPI.
