Laurens HS
- Basketball… The Raider varsity basketball teams traveled to Woodruff last night to take on the Wolverines.
- Girls: Woodruff 56 – Laurens 44… The girls’ team fell to the Wolverines 56-44 avenging an earlier 50-44 loss to the Raiders in a preseason tournament,,, The Wolverines outscored the Raiders 11-4 in the first quarter and continued to outscore the Raiders in every quarter but the last where the Raiders did outscore them 19-17… The Wolverines were led by Sadie Burnette who had a game-high 24 points… The only Raider in double-digits was Nyri Allen who finished with 16 points… The Raiders are now 3-2 on the season.
- Boys: Laurens 55 – Woodruff 47… The news is better where the boys’ team is concerned as the Raiders took a 55-47 win… The Wolverines actually led 23-19 at the half but the Raiders came out in the third quarter and outscored 19-17 and held on for the win… Now I don’t have any scoring details at this time but if I get them I will pass them on to you later… The boys are now 2-3 on the season
- JV Basketball… While the varsity teams were up at Woodruff last night the JV teams hosted the Wolverines in the main gym at LDHS.
- Girls: Woodruff 21 – Laurens 15… In JV girls’ action, the Raiders led 9-8 at the half but the Wolverines came back and took a 21-15 win over the Lady Raiders… In the second half, the Wolverines used their height advantage to control the defensive board and block at least 5 Raider shots as they went on to take the win… The top two scorers for the Raiders were Taraji Jenkins and Maylasia Cook who both scored 4 points… The team is now 0-2 on the season.
- Boys: Laurens 42 – Woodruff 30… The news is better in the JV boys’ game as the Raiders took a 42-30 win… They led by no more than 4 points up until the fourth quarter where they outscored the Wolverines 14-6 to seal the deal… The win could have been a bigger one if the Raiders had of made their free throws… They made only 3 of 24 shots from the charity strip… The Raider had 2 players scoring in double-digits as Jay Watson finished with 12 points and Damajia Crooks 10… The team is 2-0 on the young season.
