Local Notes 

Clinton HS

  • Up Next… Due to the weather, last night’s games with Eau Claire did not take place… Looking at the Red Devil basketball schedule on MaxPreps, it shows that the Red Devils will host Eau Claire making up those games on Thursday, 2-6-25 the day before thy travel to Eau Claire… That schedule also shows that they will travel to Mid-Carolina this Friday.

Laurens HS

  • Up Next… Due to the weather, the Raider basketball teams did not travel to Fountain Inn last night to take on the Fury… As far as I know, no makeup date for those games has been set… The Raiders are scheduled host the Fountain Inn Fury this Friday night (1-24-25) … We do plan on brining you those games here on Real Radio WLBG and on the internet at wlbg.com starting at 6:00 pm.

Laurens Academy

  • Up Next… According to the Crusaders master schedule on their website, the Crusaders will be traveling to Greenville today to take on the Lions of Our Lady of the Rosary… I do not know if that game is still on or not… Their schedule shows they are scheduled to travel to Anderson tomorrow at 6:00 pm to take on the Cavaliers of New Covenant School… Another schedule note concerning the Crusaders, they were scheduled to host WW King this Friday night (1-24-25) but those games have been cancelled and will not be made-up… King needed the date to makeup region games canceled last night due to the weather.

Thornwell

  • UPDATED: Basketball… Friday night the Saints hosted the Dixie Green Hornets in region action.
    • Girls: Hornets 51 – Saints 11… The Hornets outscored the Saints 18-0 in first quarter and then went on to take a 51-11 win over the Saints… Kendra Wilson scored 8 points for the Saints while Karleigh Porter scored 2 and Graycen Moore 1… The Saints fall to 4-8 overall and 3-6 in region play while the Green Hornets improve to 7-7 overall and 7-2 in region play.
    • Boys: Hornets 64 – Saints 39… In Boys’ action the news is not good for Saints fans as the Green Hornets took a 64-39 win over the Saints…. The Saints came out cold in the first quarter and trailed at its end 15-4 and the Green Hornets continued by at least 3 points in each of the remaining quarters to take the 64-39 win… Two of the Saints finished the game in double-digits as Zaylen Washington had 19 points and KJ Singleton had 12… Jacob +Wilson, Gibson Partee, and Malik Anderson all scored 2 points while Parker Workman and Ke’zaviaus Kinard both score 1 point… The Saints fall to 3-10 overall and 2-7 in region play while the Green Hornets improve to 10-6 overall and 6-3 in region play.
  • Up Next…The Saints did not travel to Calhoun Falls Charter last night to take on the Blue Flashes in region action … At this time, I do not know of a make-up date for those games… Their schedule on MaxPreps shows them to be in action next Tuesday (1-28-25) when they host the Owls of Green Upstate.

Middle School Basketball… All games start at 5:00 pm unless otherwise noted with girls’ game first followed by boys’ game… Note: coaches very often change schedule without telling me… To see the season master schedule click hereNOTE…Dixie and Thornwell do NOT have middle school girls teams this season so the 5:00 pm start will be for the boys’ game.

  • Final College Football AP Rankings In case you missed it, the final College Football AP Top 25 came out yesterday… Since thy won the FBS Championship on Monday, the Ohio State Buckeyes finished #1 with their opponent in that game Notre Dame coming in at #2… The rest of the top 5 included Oregon, Texas and Penn state… Spots 6-10 are held by Georgia, Arizona State, Boise State, Tennessee and Indiana… Clemson finished as #14 and South Carolina # 19… If you would like to see the entire list of the Top 24 in the AP Poll click here.

 

  • Ohio State Wins CFB Championship 34-23 Over Notre Dame  In case you missed it last night, the Ohio State Buckeyes took a 34-23 win over the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame to claim this years’ FBS College Football Championship… The Irish were down 31-7 about halfway through third quarter and tried to come back but fell short… For more on this game click here and click here for two different summaries of the game.

 

 

  • 2024-25 Entire College Football Bowl Schedule & Information… After the selection Committee filled out the College Playoff Brackets other teams were quickly chosen for the myriad of bowl games that are going to be held between now and the National Championship game on Monday, Jan. 20th next year… If you click here, you will go to a posting on the NCAA website where the list of bowls is posted along with when they will be held, times, TV availability and after they are over the final score.

  • DI AP PollThe latest AP Top 25 Poll (1-20-25) had some changes in the top 5… Auburn is still #1 followed by Duke (3), Iowa State (2), Alabama and Florida… There were some changes in spots 6-10 as Tennessee still checks in at #6 followed by Houston (10), Michigan State (12), Kentucky (8) and Marquette (7)…To see the remainder of the top 25 click here.

This & That:

  • Laurens Little League (L3) … Registration is now open for the upcoming season of Laurens Little League also known as L3… As usual, there will be a coach’s pitch age group along with Minors and Majors all three of which cover ages 7-12… The cost is $80 per player, and you must register by Friday, 2-7-25… If you click here it will carry you to a posting where you can find out how to register online… If you still have questions, call the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Headquarters at The Ridge at 86-681-7275… You can also register there in person and they are located at 301 Exchange drive in Laurens.
