Local Notes

 Clinton HS

  • Red Devils Host Mid-Carolina… The Red Devil varsity basketball teams hosted the Mid-Carolina Rebels in their last home basketball games of the regular season last night.
    • Girls Red Devils 55 – Rebels 27… The Lady Red Devils wasted little time in this game as they led 10-3 end of the first quarter and 24-8 at the half as they rolled on to a 55-27 … The Red Devils were able to play everyone and I do believe everyone scored… The Red Devils had only one player who scored in double-digits and that was Mckenzie Cark who scored 11 points… Others scoring for the Red Devils included Emma Patterson with 8 points. Kemaria Shelton 7 while Ry’Daijia Mars, Nah’shia Wright, and Bryanna Butler each scored 6 points… Mylayja Thompson and Jakia Burton scored 4 points each, Halleigh Luke 2 and Symiah Floyd 1… The Lady Red Devils are now19-5 overall and 9-0 in region play.
    • Boys: Red Devils 68 – Rebels 58… In boys’ action, the Red Devils took control in this game early and led 21-4 after 8 minutes of play and 50-32 going into fourth quarter… There the Rebels outscored the Red Devils 26-18 (most likely against Red Devil subs) but it was too little too late as the Red Devils prevailed by a score of 68-58… Tushawan Richardson had one of the best nights of his career as he scored 34 points… He went 13 of 14 from field, 1 for 2 from behind the three-point line and 7 of 7 from the charity strip… The Red Devils had 2 other players scoring in double-digits as Owen Glenn scored 11 points and Zy Butler 10… Others putting points on the scoreboard for Clinton included Cristian Jones and Nyterian Smith who scored 5 each, Kylen Calhoun 2 and J’shon Nabors 1… The tea is now 14-7 overall and 8-1 in region play.
  • Basketball up Next… The Red Devils travel to Fairfield Central to take on the Griffins in the last games of the regular season…. The Lady Red Devils have locked up the region title and the boys’ only loss is to the Griffins who are 9-0 in region play… This will be a big game for the boys as they can tie the Griffins with a win…. They lost to the Griffins 53-52 at home back on January 28th. ..Go Big Red!

Laurens HS

  • Raider Wrestling… The Raider wrestling team traveled down to Dreher HS Saturday to take on the May River Sharks for the SCHSL Class AAA Wrestling Championship… The Raiders wrestled well and took an early lead but the Sharks came back and won the last 5 matches to take a 36-35 win over the Raiders… Below is how each of the matches went.

138 – Dakota McCall (L) pinned Braxton Stevens (MR)

144 – Micheal Aiken (L) won a major decision over Thomas Brough (MR), 16-3

150 – Leyden Gentry (L) pinned Blake Butler (MR)

157 – Jonathan Pagoada (L) won a major decision over Leandro Lamanaga (MR), 18-8

165 – Gage Kemph (L) pinned Henry Santiz (MR)

175 – Zaine Kellett (L) won a decision over Andre Cavalheiro (MR), 8-5

190 – Josh Echeverria (MR) won on a technical fall over Isai Fernandez (L)

215 – Michael Brown (L) pinned Sean Zadroga-Mcnutty (MR)

285 – Beau Gwynn (MR) won on a technical fall over Jordan Stroud (L), 15-0

106 – Stephano Caderlon (MR) won on a technical fall over Crisley Martin (L), 17-1

113 – Ryan Seman (MR) pinned Abel Miles (L)

120 – Marcus Foulk (MR) pinned Cayden Fiddie (L)

126 – Liam Engblom (MR) won a decision over Kai McCall (L), 8-1

 

  • Updated – Raiders Basketball Host Emerald… The Laurens Raiders closed out their regular season last Friday night hosting the Emerald Vikings.
    • Girls: Raiders 54 – Vikings 35… The Lady Raiders wasted little time in taking control of this game as they led 18-4 after one quarter of play and 31-12 at half and continued to outscore Vikings the rest of the way dominating the inside game… Zoe Young had a game-high 20 points to lead the Raiders while Nyri Allen finished with 11 points and Keyorick Yeargin 10… Ty Jones scored 8 points and Alayiah Carter 5The Lady Raiders finish the season with an overall record of 12-13 and 5-5 in region play.
    • Updated: Boys: Raiders 81 – Emerald 51… Boys completed the sweep of the Vikings as the boys took an 81-51 win… They jumped out to a 37-23 lead at the half and the Raiders outscored the Vikings 24-9 in the fourth quarter to insure the win… The raiders had five players scoring in double-digits and were led by TyJ Jones who scored 16 points… Both RJ Brewster-Snow and Will Thompson scored 11 points while Q. Watts finished with 10… Others scoring for the Raiders included Damyyo Watts who scored 8 points, Nigere Brown 7, while the Raider scoring was rounded out by Hunter Richardson, Quin Anderson, Trendon Brown, and Zee Simpson who each scored 2 points…The Raiders finish the regular season with a 19-7 record and 7-3 in region play.
  • Basketball up Next… The Raiders will now wait on other region opponents to finish their season this week to find out where they will finish in the region… I can almost guarantee that both teams will be in action in the playoffs that start next week.

Laurens Academy

  • Region Tournament Finals Monday Basketball Today… The SCISA 2A Region IV Tournament concluded last night at Laurens Academy… Games involving the Crusaders included.
    • Middle School Boy: Our Lady of the Rosary 41 – Crusaders 18… The Lions of our Lady of the Rosary jumped out to a 12-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and went on to take a41-18 win over the Crusaders as the Crusaders just could not get the shots to fall… Elias Littleton led the MS Crusaders with 10 points… George Sherer scored 3 points, Parker Wilson 2, while Reid Campbell, Blane Mitchell and Mason snider all scored 1 point…. The team finished second in the region tournament…. Elias Littleton and Mason Snider both received postseason honors.
    • Varsity Girls: Crusaders 48 – Our Lady of the Rosary 18… The Crusader varsity girls’ team rook on the Lady Lions of Our Lady of the Rosary for the tournament title last night… The Crusaders started the game fast as they led 17-4 at the end of the first quarter and continued to outscore the Lions as they rolled to a 48-19 win… Sadie Bruyere led the Crusaders with a game-high 19 points and Braylee Burke was also in double-digits with 11 points… Brooklynn Senn and Mackenzie Runyans both scored 7 points… Madisyn Graham scored 3 points and E.P. Terry 1… The Crusader won the Regular Season and Tournament Championships going 4-0 in the regular season in region action… They are now 16-7 overall.
    • Varsity Boys: Oakbrook Prep 57 – Crusaders 45… The crusaders punched their ticket to the tournament finals last Saturday by taking a 49-36 win over the Lions of Our Lady of the Rosary… Last night they took on the Oakbrook Prep Knights for the tournament crow… The two teams battled hard in the first half with the lead going back in forth and the Knights holding a 23-22 lead at the half… In the second half, the Knights slowly pulled away from the Crusaders outscoring them 34-23 to take a 57-45 win over the Crusaders as the Knights captured both the regular season and tournament championships… The Crusaders were led in scoring by Garrison Vaught who played a great game in the paint… He collected numerous rebound and several of them were offensive rebound that he put back in for points… Braydon Burke was also in double-digits as he scored 14 points… Micha Strait finished with 7 points, Elijah Strait 3 and Tristan Bates 1… The Crusaders are now 7-17 on the season.
    • Up Next… The varsity basketball teams will now wait on the seeding for post season play done by SCISA… That should come out Wednesday afternoon and be available for Thursday morning’s sports report.
  • Awards… At the conclusion of the games last night several awards were handed out including trophies for Region and Tournament Championships… Crusaders who picked up awards included:
    • Boys: All-Tournament Team… Micha Strait and Garrett Murphy… All-Region Team… Garrison Vaughn and Braydon Burke.

 

 

 

 

    • Girls: All-Tournament Team… Abby Howard, Brooklynn Senn and Tournament MVP Sadie Bruyere… All-Region Team… Madisyn Graham, Mackenzie Runyan and Player of the Year Braylee Burke… The Coach of the Year is Coach Jason Marlett.

 

 

 


McCormick at Thornwell… The Saints hosted the McCormick Chiefs Monday night in region action

  • Boys: Chiefs 81 – Saints 43… Sorry all I have is the final score and no scoring details.
  • Girls: Chiefs 48 – Saints 44… The Lady Saints lost a heartbreaker Monday night as they led 26-23 at half but fell by score of 48-44…  They just had trouble getting the shots to fall in the second half… Aly Jeter was the only Saint scoring in double-digits as she scored 15 points… Kenli English scored 7 points, Kendra Wilson 6, Graycen Moore 4, Kelyn Spurgeon 5, Jessie Pitts 5 and Madi Landrith 2.
  • Up Next in Basketball…The Saints are scheduled host Whitmire tonight in last games of regular season… It is my understanding that one of the Saint teams might still be in the hunt for a playoff spot and tonight’s game will have a huge impact on that so come out and support the Saints if you can… Go Big Dogs!

  • Schedule… Well February is here and that means it is almost tine for the Daytona 500 and the real start of the NASCAR season…  Some preliminary races will start at Daytona on Thursday Feb. 13th with the Daytona 500 on Sunday Feb. 16th… If you click here it will carry you to the NASCAR website where the season schedule is posted and you can look at the Cup Series.   • Youth Baseball and softball at The Clinton YMCA… Registration is now open at the Clinton YMCA for youth baseball and softball… They have 5 different age groupings for baseball and 2 for softball… Registration will close on Friday, 2-14-25… For more information about this and to register online click here… There is also a list of frequently asked questions at this website… There is also a way to drop them a message if you still have questions on that website also… If you had rather call, phone them at 864-866-1555.

 

  • Raider Cheerleading Meeting… Any 6th-11th graders who are interested in joining the Raider cheerleaders next school year need to know that there is a mandatory meeting for all interested in the lecture theater on Tuesday, Feb.18th at 6:00 pm… Also note that if you are interested and come to the meeting, a parent or guardian MUST also attend with you…  Ai for some reason you cannot make the meeting, you need to reach out to Coach Patterson immediately…  Her email address is epatterson@laurens55.org.
