Local Notes

SCHSL Basketball BracketsIf you would like to see all the brackets for the South Carolina High School League for all the classifications both boys and girls, click here…. NOTE… For all SCHSL playoff games, the tickets will cost $8 each ($15 for later rounds) and anyone over the age of two must have a ticket to enter… The only passes that will be accepted are SCHSL passes… No school issued passes of any type will be accepted.


Clinton HS

  • Lady Red Devils Play Tonight… The Lady Red Devils will be playing for the Upper State Championship in Class AA girls’ basketball down at the Florence Center taking on region foe Eau Clair at 6:00 pm… The 23-5 Red Devils defeated the 18-8 Shamrocks twice during the regular season 36-28 at home and 34-31 in Columbia… The Red Devils are averaging 46.2 points per game and the Shamrocks 39.5… If you click here, it will carry to a posting on MaxPreps that has other comparisons between the two teams… The winner of that game will play for the state championship at noon on Saturday in the same location….   • Rion Gordon Signs with Brevard College… Last Friday (2-28-25) senior offensive lineman Rion Gordon signed a letter of intent to continue his football career and academic career playing for the Brevard College Tornados… Rion was very thankful to his parents, coaches, teammates and teachers for helping him to get this point in his career… Coach Fountain talked about him getting the work done in the classroom as well as being one of the leaders on this year’s Red Devil football team that won the SCHSL Class AA Championship… He played offensive line and was long snapper for the Red Devils this past season and the latter is what he will mainly do for the Tornados… Other schools further away also showed interest in him… If you would like to see a short video interview with him after the signing, click here….   • Softball Preseason Tournament… The Red Devil softball team is hosting a preseason tournament again this year and that tournament it started Monday (3-3-25 and will end on Saturday (3-8-25)… In addition to the Red Devils the other teams that are taking part are Abbeville, Whitmire, Greenwood, Laurens and Blacksburg… To see the entire tournament schedule click here… The schedule for today and results from yesterday are as follows:
    • Clinton vs. Abbeville at 5:00 pm
    • Laurens vs. Abbeville at 7:00 pm
    • Results from yesterday: Whitmire 17 – Greenwood 1 and Laurens 24 –Greenwood 7

 Laurens

  • Softball: Raiders 24 – Eagles 7 (5)… Yesterday the Raider softball team opened its season by taking a 24-7 win over the Eagles of Greenwood in action at the Clinton Preseason Tournament in 5 innings … The Raiders simply outhit the Eagles 16-5 and four of their 16 hits were for extra bases… Addison Trevino led the Raiders at the plate going 4 for 5 with two doubles and a homer driving in 7 of the Raider runs… Carly Edwards, Summer Nations, Makayden Livingston and Addie Carlisle each had more than 1 hit in the game…. Summer Nations picked up the complete game win as she gave up the 7 runs (only 2 of which were earned) on 5 hits and a walk… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here…. The Raiders will be back in action today when they travel back to Clinton to take on the Abbeville Panthers at 7:00 pm.

PC Notes

  • Big South Basketball Tournament… The Big South Conference will start the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 5th up in Johnson City, Tennessee… Both of the Blue Hose basketball teams will be participating with the Lady Blue Hose coming into their portion of the tournament as a #8 seed and taking on #9 seed UNC Ashville Wednesday, March 5th at 5:00 pm… The men come into their portion of the tournament as a #5 seed and will play #4 seed Radford at 2:30 pm on Friday… For complete information about this tournament click here to go to the Big South website where they have a posting dedicated to answering all your questions about it… If you have a question, you can’t find the answer to there, you probably don’t need to know it….   • Christopher Bell Wins Again… In case you missed it Sunday; Christopher Bell took the win in the Cup Series out in Austin making him the first two-race winner and first back-to-back winner this season… He was able to chase down Kyle Busch late on the road course and then hold off William Byron to get the win… For more on this race including the order of finish for the entire field, click here. .
  • Driver Standings… After this race, the top 5 drivers in the Cup Series Standings are now William Byron, Ryan Blaney, Tyler Reddick, Christopher Bell and Chase Elliott… If you click here you will go the NASCAR posting that has the Cups Series standings from top to bottom… Once you get there you can click on tabs at the top of the page to see the driver standings in the Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series.
