Local Notes

Broadcast Notes We plan on broadcasting the following game on Real Radio WLBG and stream live on the internet at www.wlbg.com

  • Monday, 3-17-25… Baseball host Westside at 6:30 pm
  • Tuesday, 3-18-25… Softball host Westside at 7:0 pm
  • Friday, 3-21-25… Baseball host Westside at 6:30 pm

Clinton HS

  • Softball: Clinton 7 – Laurens 2… The Red Devil and Raider so9ftball teams got together for the first time this season last Friday night at Clinton HS… The Game was tied 1-1 after 1 inning of play and it stayed that way until the Red Devils put 6 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th inning and then went on to take a 7-2 win over the Raiders… They simply outhit the Raiders 15-5 and 6 of their 15 hits were for extra bases while only 1 of the Raiders hits was for extra bases… Me Me Smith led the Red Devils at the plate going 3 for 3 and driving in 1 run… She also picked up the complete game win striking out 7 and walking just one… Halleigh Luke had 2 hits one of which was a triple and she drove in 2 runs, Sierra Templeton had 2 hits including a double, Alissa Young had 2 hits including a double and an RBI, and Micha Snelgrove had 2 hits including a double and 1 RBI… The only Raider to have more than 1 hit was Addison Trevino who went 2 for 4 with a double and scored both of the Raiders runs… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.
  • Softball up Next… The 2-3 Red Devils will host the Abbeville Panthers tonight at 7:00 pm

 

  • Baseball up Next… The Red Devil varsity baseball team will host Mid-Carolina Tuesday (3-18) at 7:30 in a VERY IMPORTANT region matchup at 7:30… The Rebels were ranked #1 in the preseason poll for Class AA.

Laurens

  • Softball up Next… After the loss to Clinton, the Raiders are 4-3 and will host the Westside Rams Tuesday at 7:00 pm in a game we hope to broadcast here on Real Radio WLBG.
  • Baseball up Next… The Raiders are scheduled to host Westside tonight (3-17-25) at 6:30 pm and we do plan on brining you that game here on Real Radio WLBG.

Laurens Academy

  • Baseball… The Crusader varsity baseball team hosted the Newberry Eagles in a doubleheader of baseball on Friday.
    • Crusaders 13 – Eagles 0 (4)… In the first game, Wyatt Little and the Crusader defense held the Eagles hitless as Little struck out 5 and walked just 1… The Crusaders meanwhile were able to get 8 hits of 4 Eagle pitchers who also walked 8 Crusaders and had some wild pitches that helped the Crusaders get there 13 runs in 4 innings… Three different Crusaders had 2 hits each had 2 hits each and all the Crusader hits were singles… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.
    • Crusaders 11 – Eagles 2… In the second game the Crusaders also won this time by a score of 11-2 in 5 innings… The Eagles scored all their run in the 1st inning and had only 2 hits in the game of 4 Crusader pitchers… The Crusaders had only 8 hits (all singles) but were aided by 4 Eagle errors, 7 walks and a few wild pitches… Caleb Hardy led the Crusader at the plate as he went 3 for 3 and drove in 3 runs… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here
    • Up Next… The team is 3-1 on the season and according to their master schedule on the LA website, they will be traveling to Spartanburg Christian Academy tomorrow.
  • Softball up Next… I believe the Crusader softball team will be taking on the Spartanburg Christian Academy Warriors tomorrow and I think it will be at home at 5:00 pm but I saw a contradiction to that on another Crusader schedule.

Thornwell

  • Baseball: Abbeville 17 – Saints 0 (3)… The Saints baseball team traveled to Abbeville last Friday and the Panthers scored 12 runs in the first inning and went on to take a 17-0 win over the Saints in 3 innings…  The Abbeville pitcher Trey Deason held the Saints to just 1 hit while striking out 6 and walking none while the Panthers offense pounded out 10 hits and took advantage of 5 walks issued by 3 Saint pitchers and 3 Saint errors… T.M. Kinard-Shelton had the only hit for the Saints… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here… According to their schedule on MaxPreps, the Saints will travel to Whitmire Wednesday.
  • Softball: Saints 20 – Calhoun Falls 0 (3)… The Saints baseball team was also in the road last Friday as they traveled a few miles beyond Abbeville over to Calhoun Falls to take on the Blue Flashes… This game was just the opposite of the baseball game as the Saints dominated the Flashes taking a 20-0 win… They scored 7 in the1st  inning, 3 in the 2nd and broke the game open in the 3rd scoring 10 runs… They outhit the Flashes 12-1 but took full benefit of 10 walks issued by the Flashes… also some of the Saints may be bruised today as there were 7 hit batters… Lexi Hazel went 3 for 3 and had 2 RBIs to lead the Saints at the plate and 3 other Saints had 2 hits each… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here… The team is 2-0 on the season and will be hosting Whitmire Tuesday (3-18) at 4:15 in a big region game.

Men’s March Madness BracketFor those of you who missed the March Madness Announcement show last night if you click here it will carry you to the NCAA website where the official bracket is located… The bracket is interactive so you can click on games of interest for more information…Of interest to local fans:

  • Clemson is a # 5 seed in the Midwest Regional and will take #12 seed McNeese in Providence, RI… They will play Thursday (3-20) at 3:15 pm.
  • Wofford is a #15 seed and will take on #2 seed Tennessee in the Mideast Regional in Lexington, KY… They will play Thursday (3-20) at 6:50 pm.

Women’s March Madness BracketAgain for those of you who missed the March Madness Announcement show last night if you click here it will carry you to the NCAA website where the official bracket is located… The bracket is interactive so you can click on games of interest for more information…Of interest to local fans:

  • South Carolina is seeded #1 in Regional #2 in the Birmingham area… They will take on Tennessee Tech on Friday at 4:00 pm

College Conference Basketball Tournaments 

  • ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament… The ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament starts today (Tuesday, 3-11-25) up in Charlotte… For more information about the tournament including the bracket, schedule and scores after the games are finished, click here.
    • Louisville 76 – Clemson 73… The Tigers ACC Title hopes came to an end Friday night as the Louisville Cardinals defeated them 76-73… The Tigers were sown by 67-52 with 3:50 left in the game and got to within 2 points before falling 76-73…. Click here for more details on the game.
    • Duke Wins ACC Tournament Championship… On Saturday the #1 seeded Duke Blue Devils defeated Louisville 73-62 to punch their ticket to the Big Dance”… Click here for more details on that game.
  • SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament… The SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament will start tomorrow (Wednesday, 3-12-25) up in Nashville… If you click here it will carry you to the SEC website where they have a posting that has most anything you would want to know about the tournament including but not limited to bracket, schedule and scores.
    • Florida Wins SEC Tournament… The #2 seeded Florida Gators were able to defeat the #4 seeded Tennessee Volunteers 86-77 to win the SEC Tournament Championship and guarantee themselves a spot in March Madness… Click here for more information on this game.

  • DI AP PollThe latest AP Top 25 Poll (3-9-25) some changes in the top 5 this week… Duke has moved up to #1from #2 followed by Houston (3), Auburn (1), Florida (5) and Alabama (7)…  There were also some changes in spots 6-10 as St John’s checks in at #6 followed by Michigan St. (8), Tennessee (4), Texas Tech and Clemson moves up a spot to #10… To see the remainder of the top 25 click here.

  • Josh Berry Wins at Las Vegas… In case you missed it Sunday; Christopher Bell did NOT win the Cup series race in Las Vegas Sunday breaking his 3-race winning streak… Instead the race was won by Josh Berry who picked up his first career win in the Cup Series… He has won twice at Las Vegas, but those wins were in the Xfinity Series… For more on this race including the order of finish for the entire field, click here.

 

  • Driver Standings… After this race, the top 5 drivers in the Cup Series Standings are now William Byron, Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick, Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman… If you click here, you will go the NASCAR posting that has the Cups Series standings from top to bottom… Once you get there you can click on tabs at the top of the page to see the driver standings in the Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series.
  • Master Schedule… If you click here it will carry you to the NASCAR website where the season schedule is posted, and you can look at the Cup Series.
