  • Baseball: Raiders 8 – Wren 7… The Raider baseball team hosted the Wren Golden Hurricanes last night at Ed Prescott Field in a very important region game… The game was tied 7-7 going into the bottom of the 7th inning when with one out, Jireh Brown singled and reached second on an error by the second baseman… With a 2-2 count Tristen Buzbee than singled driving in the speedy Brown to give the Raiders a walk-off win… The Raiders outhit the Hurricanes 12-7 but both teams also had problems with errors and wild pitches so that only 2 of the Raiders runs were earned and none of the Hurricanes… That was especially true in the 3rd inning when wren scored 6 runs and in the 4th when the Raiders scored 6 runs…  Zay Pulley and Buzbee both had 3 hits to lead the Raiders as they both had a double and Buzbee also had a triple and the game winning single… By the way, Buzbee picked up the win pitching… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.
  • Softball: Raiders 13 – JL Mann 7… There is also good news for Raider fans where the softball team is concerned as the Raiders traveled up to Greenville last night to take on the JL Mann Patriots and the ride home was a happy one as the Raiders won 13-7… Mann actually led 6-5 going into the top of the 7th inning where the Raiders scored 8 runs to make it 13-6 Raiders and then the Patriots scored 1 run in the bottom of the inning to make it 13-7… A double play by the Raiders ended the game and preserved the win… The Raiders outhit the Patriots 16-5 but to be honest both teams had problems with errors, wild pitches and hit batters so that only 3 of the Patriot runs were earned and 7 of the Raider runs were earned…All the hits by both teams were singles… For the Raiders Makayden Livingston and Addie Carlisle both had 3 hits and 4 other Raiders had 2 hits each… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here

This & That:

As most of you have heard by now, WLBG will be signing off the air sometime on Monday, 3-31-2025.

This will be a bittersweet moment for me as I have strived to bring you local sports to the best of my ability and throw in some college and pro sports also.

As I understand it, the WLBG website will NOT be taken down immediately.

If that is the case, I may still be able to continue to post these sports reports on the website for some time to come if there if you the Laurens County sports fans want me to.

Obviously, I will not be getting paid to do it, but I will try to continue to the end of the high school sports this season if the demand is there. This will also help me to decide if in the future I might try to develop my own website if I can obtain the sponsorship to bring you what you want.

If you don’t mind, please email me at sports@wlbg.com and let me know you would like to see it continue.

That is the only way I have to judge this.

If I don’t seem to generate much interest in this that is fine, I just won’t do it.

In any event I have enjoyed (for the most part) my almost 15 years doing this and meeting some great coaches, players, administrators and you the fans.

Take care and you will still be able to catch me at some athletic contest.

Go Red Devils, Raiders, Crusaders and Saints!
