Local Notes

 Clinton HS

  • Tuesday Softball: Clinton 18 – Columbia 0… I now have some information about the Red Devils 18-0 win over the Columbia HS Capitals back on Tuesday (4-1-25)… The Red Devils scored 7 runs in the 1st inning, 2 in the 2nd and 9 in the 3rd to take the 18-0 win…They outhit the Capitals 8-0 and were the benefactors of 5 Capital errors and 11 walks plus a couple of wild pitches and hit batters so that only 12 of their 18 runs were earned…. Kamryn Campbell was the only Red Devil with more than 1 hit as she went 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI… Addie Watkins and Taylor Davis both had triples in the game driving in runs… Cat Wilkie took the win giving up no hits or runs while striking out 4 and walking none… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here
  • Up Next in Softball… The Red Devils will be hosting the Newberry Bulldogs today according to their schedule on Max Preps.

  • Baseball… According to their schedule, the 7-4 Red Devils were supposed be heading to Strom Thurmond HS to take on the Rebels in non-region action yesterday… If that game was played, I can’t find any score on it but if I find it later today, I will have it for you tomorrow…. Their schedule on MaxPreps shows that are supposed to host Columbia HS tomorrow at 6:00 pm but I cannot confirm that on the CHS athletics website.

  • Golf: Clinton 151 – Broome 156… The Red Devil golf team hosted the Broome Centurions at Lakeside CC Tuesday and its good news for Red Devil fans as they took a151-156 win over the Centurions… Like Murray led the Red Devils with a 1 under par 35… James Dearbury of Broom was the match medalist with a 34… For more information on this match including how the other Red Devils did, click here.

  • Baseball: Raiders 15 – Vikings 10… After defeating the Emerald Vikings 11-1 at home on Tuesday night, the Laurens Raiders traveled to Greenwood to take on the Vikings last night on their home field… The Raiders took another win by a score of 15-10 but it was not as easy as the night before as the score would indicate… The Vikings actually led 6-5 after 3 innings of play but the Raiders led 12-6 after 5 innings of play and then held on to take the win… The Raiders outhit the Vikings 15-6 and 5 of their hits were for extra bases while the Vikings only had 2 extra base hits… The Vikings did have enough errors (4) so that only 11 of the Raider runs were earned… Zay Pulley led the Raiders at the plate as he went 3 for 5 and he had 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases… Logan Martin had 2 doubles driving in 3 runs while Ben Willis and Tristan Buzbee both had a double that drove in runs… Willis also had a triple… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.
  • Up Next in Baseball… The Raider baseball team is scheduled to travel to Emerald HS tomorrow to take on the Vikings at 6:30 pm.

  • Softball: Clinton 22 – Raiders 6… The news is not as good where the Raider softball team is concerned as they fell to the Clinton Red Devils 22-6 last night at LDHS thus the Red Devils can claim the “County Championship” this season in softball… The Red Devils led 7-0 going into the bottom of the 2nd inning where the Raiders scored 5 runs to make it 7-5 Red Devils but Clinton answered that with 7 runs in the top of the 3rd inning and then rolled on to the win in 5 innings… The Red Devils outhit the Raiders 22-4 with Kamryn Campbell going 5 for 5 with 4 RBIs… Cat Wilkie and Me-Me Smith both had 4 hits with Wilkie getting 2 triples and Smith getting a double among her 4 hits… Three other Red Devils had more than one hit and several of them had extra base hits…. Me-Me Smith picked up the complete game win giving up the 4 hits and 6 runs (none of them earned) while striking out 5 and walking 2… No Raider had more than 1 hit but Carly Edwards was a triple driving in 3 runs…To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.

This & That:

As most of you know by now, WLBG will be signed off the air sometime about 3:15 pm on Monday, 3-31-2025.

That was a bittersweet moment for me as I have strived to bring you local sports to the best of my ability and throw in some college and pro sports also.

As I understand it, the WLBG website will NOT be taken down immediately.

If that is the case I may still be able to continue to post these sports reports on the website for some time to come if there if you the Laurens County sports fans want me to but don’t look for the sports report until 8:00 am weekdays or perhaps a little later (I’ll be sleeping later and not getting up at 3:00 am like I have been doing).

Obviously I will not be getting paid to do it but I will try to continue to the end of the high school sports this season if the demand is there. This will also help me to decide if in the future I might try to develop my own website if I can obtain the sponsorship to bring you what you want.

If you don’t mind, please email me at sports@wlbg.com and let me know you would like to see it continue.

That is the only way I have to judge this.

If I don’t seem to generate much interest in this that is fine I just won’t do it.

In any event I have enjoyed (for the most part) my almost 15 years doing this and meeting some great coaches, players, administrators and you the fans.

Take care and you will still be able to catch me at some athletic contest.

Go Red Devils, Raiders, Crusaders and Saints!
