Local Notes

 Clinton HS

  • Baseball: Clinton 19 – Columbia 0 (3)… The Red Devil baseball team hosted the Columbia Capitals last Friday and took a very one-sided 19-0 win over the Capitals… As you may or may not recall, the Red Devils defeated the Capitals in Columbia last Tuesday by a score of 18-0 scoring all their runs in the 1st inning… Very similar in the Friday game as the Red Devils scored 13 runs in the 1st inning and 6 in the 2nd to win the game in 3 innings…The Red Devils simply outhit the Capitals 12-0 with the Capitals having enough miscues so that only 17 of the Red Devils runs were earned… Luke Young and Camden Finley were the only 2 Red Devils with more than 1 hit as they both had 2 hits one of which was triple for both of them… Three different Red Devil pitches each worked 1 inning where they combined to strike out 8 Capitals while walking none and giving up no hits… They were Jayden Glenn, Tanner Finley and Isaac Cane…To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.

  • Softball: Clinton 20 – Columbia 0… The Red Devil softball team hosted the Columbia HS Capitals last Friday in region action and about all I can tell you is that the Red Devils scored 11 run in the first inning and 9 in the second inning thus taking a 20-0 win in 3 innings… If I get any more details on this game today I will pass them along to you tomorrow.
  • Up Next in Softball… According to their schedule, the Red Devils will be traveling to Ninety Six today weather permitting to take on the Wildcats. .

Two Sign at Clinton HS Friday (4-4-25)… A pair of student-athletes signed to continue their education and athletic careers at two area schools.

  • Jamirah Rivers signed a letter of intent with Erskine College to continue her education and cheerleading career… She mentioned that she had several academic scholarship offers from other schools, but Erskine was the only one that also offered the chance to continue cheerleading… She plans on majoring in a pre-medical field with the goal of becoming a dental hygienist and then possibly move on to dental school to become a dentist… Good luck and congratulations to her!

  • Tushawan Richardson signed a letter of intent to continue his education at Newberry College playing football with the Wolves… He said that he had had conversation with other smaller schools around the area including PC but he just felt like Newberry would be the best fit for him after visiting and talking with the coaches there… Richardson was a two sports star at Clinton not only quarterbacking the football team but also having outstanding seasons on the basketball team… When asked if anyone recruited him for basketball, he replied a few junior colleges and DII schools expressed and interest, but he wanted to play football more than basketball… He said there was a remote possibility he might try to walk-on the basketball team at Newberry, but he wanted to concentrate on football first and then see how it went… When asked about his most memorable moment at Clinton HS without a pause he replied winning the State Class AAA Football Championship this past season was it… He is planning on majoring in sports management to try to stay involved with athletics after he graduates… Congratulations to Tushawan and Good Luck both on the field and in the classroom!

Laurens

  • Baseball: Raiders 11 – Vikings 1(6)… The Raiders traveled to Emerald HS to take on the Vikings and came home with an 11-1 win to completer a sweep of the Vikings last week… The Raiders did it by simply outhitting the Vikings 10-3 with Zay Pulley, Logan Martin and Brayden Patterson each getting 2 hits in the game… All of the Viking hits were singles while Pulley and Bennett Edwards each had a double for the Raiders… The Raiders led 6-1 after 4 innings of play and broke the game open in the 6th inning scoring 5 runs and then holding the Vikings scoreless to end the game on the 10-run rule… The Raiders also had their track shoes on as they stole 7 bases in the game with Ben Willis getting 2 of them… Rylan Paxton pitched the first 4 innings and picked up the win with Ben Willis pitching the last 2 innings…To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.

Laurens Academy

  • Baseball: Crusaders 9 – WW King 4… The Crusaders hosted the Knights of WW King last Friday and took a 9-4 win… They outhit the Knights 8-4 and all of the Knights hits were singles while both Caleb and Hack Hardy each had a double among the Crusaders 8 hits… The Knights led 2-1 going into the bottom of the 3rd inning where the Crusaders put 4 runs on the scoreboard and never trailed after that… Hack Hardy and Evan Asalone were the only two Crusaders to have more than one hit as they each had two… There were errors by both teams that figured into the scoring by the other team… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.

Thornwell

  • Baseball: Ware Shoals 14 – Saints 1… The Saints baseball team traveled over to Ware Shoals last Friday to take on the Hornets… Once again, the Saints must have left their wasp / Hornet spray at home as the Hornets took a 14-1 win in 5 innings… They simply outhit the Saints 13-2 and the Saints did have a few errors so that only 8 of the Hornets runs were earned…. The Hornets also had 5 doubles and a triple among their hits while the Saints managed just 2 singles against the Hornets… Parker Workman had a single in the 3rd inning that drove in the Saints only run… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.

  • Softball: Ware shoals 6 – Saints 2… The Saints softball team traveled over to Ware Shoals also last Friday night and they lost a tough one by a score of 6-2… The Saints scored 2 runs in the 1st inning and made them standup until the bottom of the 6th inning… There the Hornets scored all 6 of their runs to take the win holding the Saints scoreless in the top of the 7th inning… What makes it so tough is that the Hornets only had 2 of their 4 hits in the 6th inning and the Saints shot themselves in the foot as errors, walks and hit batters helped the Hornets score their runs in the inning… Only 2 of the 6 runs were earned… Both teams had 4 hits and Skyla Bates had two doubles to lead the Crusaders at the plate… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.

This & That:

As most of you know by now, WLBG will be signed off the air about 3:15 pm on Monday, 3-31-2025.

That was a bittersweet moment for me as I have strived to bring you local sports to the best of my ability and throw in some college and pro sports also.

As I understand it, the WLBG website will NOT be taken down immediately.

If that is the case I may still be able to continue to post these sports reports on the website for some time to come if there if you the Laurens County sports fans want me to but don’t look for the sports report until 8:00 am weekdays or perhaps a little later (I’ll be sleeping later and not getting up at 3:00 am like I have been doing).

Obviously I will not be getting paid to do it but I will try to continue to the end of the high school sports this season if the demand is there. This will also help me to decide if in the future I might try to develop my own website if I can obtain the sponsorship to bring you what you want.

If you don’t mind, please email me at sports@wlbg.com and let me know you would like to see it continue.

That is the only way I have to judge this.

If I don’t seem to generate much interest in this that is fine I just won’t do it.

In any event I have enjoyed (for the most part) my almost 15 years doing this and meeting some great coaches, players, administrators and you the fans.

Take care and you will still be able to catch me at some athletic contest.

Go Red Devils, Raiders, Crusaders and Saints!
