Please see an important note and question about the future of this report in the This and That Section at the bottom of this report.
Local Notes
Clinton HS
- Up Next in Baseball… The Red Devils are scheduled host Fairfield Central at 7:30 tonight.
- Up Next in Softball… According to their schedule, the Red Devils will not be in action until Tuesday, 4-22 when they host the Eau Claire Shamrocks at 5:30 pm
Laurens HS
- Up Next in Baseball… The Raider baseball team will now host Fountain Inn tonight at 6:30 in a game they really need to win to try to keep pace with the Fury who are undefeated in the region.
- Softball: Wren 6 – Laurens 5…. The Raiders hosted the Golden Hurricanes of Wren last night and the score is not what I like to report as the Hurricanes led 6-5 at the end of 5 innings and then the game was stopped in the middle of the sixth inning with the score still 6-5 Wren due to lightning… The Raiders trailed 6-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning where they scored 3 runs to make it 6-5 but just could not get another run or two before lightning caused the game to be ended…. Wren outhit the Raiders 11-6 but the Hurricanes also had a couple of errors so that only 4 of the Raiders 5 runs were earned… Summer Nations led the Raiders at the plate going 2 for 3 scoring 2 runs and driving in a run… Addison Trevino had only 1 hit but it was a double that drove in a run… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.
- Up Next in Softball… The Raiders are now scheduled to host Wade Hampton today (4-11) in a JV-Varsity doubleheader starting at 5:30.
Laurens Academy
- Up Next in Baseball… The Crusader baseball master schedule on their website says they will be hosting Richard Winn today at 4:00 with a middle school game but their MaxPreps schedule shown no game until Tuesday, 4-22-25 so I am just not sure.
- Up Next in Softball… As best I can tell, the Crusaders will be hosting the Eagles of Richard inn at 5:30 today if the schedule on MaxPreps is correct.
Thornwell
- Baseball… According to their GameChanger account, the Thornwell Saints baseball team hosted the McCormick Chiefs in a doubleheader of baseball yesterday in Clinton…. If GameChanger is correct there was some bell ringing going on as the Saints took 2 one-sided wins against the Chiefs.
- Game 1: Saints 16 – Chiefs 0 (3)… In the first game, the Saints scored 16 runs in the first inning and the Saint defense and Parker Workman held the Chiefs hitless as they took a 16-0 win in 3 innings… Workman struck out 8 of the 9 batters he faced and did not issue a walk… The Saints pounded out 9 hits with 3 of them being for extra bases (2 doubles and a triple)… The Chiefs pitches issued 9 walks while only striking out 2 and the Chiefs did have a couple of errors that aided the Saints… Parker Workman, Tru’Mari Kinard-Shelton and Arnell Deese each had 2 hits in the game…To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.
- Game 2: Saints 17 – Chiefs 0… The second game was pretty much a repeat of the first game as this time the Saints took a 17-0 win over the Chiefs… The Saints only outhit the Chiefs 6-0 but took full advantage of 5 Chief errors and 10 walks so that only 10 of their 17 runs were earned… Again the Saints scored all of their runs in the first inning and coasted the rest of the way as Sam Robertson did not allow a hit while striking out 7 of the batters he faced and issued no walks… Griffin Raines and Sam Robertson both had 2 hits for the Saints with one of Raines’ being a double… Parker Workman only had 1 hit but it was a triple that drove in 3 runs… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.
- Up Next in Baseball… According to their schedule on MaxPreps, the Saints will be in action next Monday (4-14) when host Dixie HS taking on the Green Hornets in region action at 7:00 pm.
- Softball: Whitmire 11 – Saints 1 (5)… Yesterday the Saints softball team traveled over to Whitmire HS to take on the Wolverines… I hate to have to report that Whitmire took a 10-1 win over the Saints in 5 innings… The Saints actually outhit the Wolverines 7-4 and all the hits by both teams were singles… The Saints led 1-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd inning where the Wolverines scored 9 runs and added 2 more in the 5th to win the game 11-1 on the 10-run rule… One statistic for the Saints sticks out like a sore thumb and that is that two Saint pitchers issued 10 walks in the game and thy figured heavily into the Wolverines scoring especially in the 9 run third inning… Adrienne Anderson and Skyla Bates were the only two Saints to get more than 1 hit as they both had 2… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.
- Up Next in Softball … Looking at the Saints schedule on MaxPreps it looks like they will be hosting McCormick next Tuesday (4-15) at 5:00 pm.

This & That:
As most of you know by now, WLBG will be signed off the air about 3:15 pm on Monday, 3-31-2025.
That was a bittersweet moment for me as I have strived to bring you local sports to the best of my ability and throw in some college and pro sports also.
As I understand it, the WLBG website will NOT be taken down immediately.
If that is the case I may still be able to continue to post these sports reports on the website for some time to come if there if you the Laurens County sports fans want me to but don’t look for the sports report until 8:00 am weekdays or perhaps a little later (I’ll be sleeping later and not getting up at 3:00 am like I have been doing).
Obviously, I will not be getting paid to do it, but I will try to continue to the end of the high school sports this season if the demand is there. This will also help me to decide if in the future I might try to develop my own website if I can obtain the sponsorship to bring you what you want.
If you don’t mind, please email me at sports@wlbg.com and let me know you would like to see it continue.
That is the only way I have to judge this.
If you have not already done so, please continue to let me know you read the sports reports.
If I don’t seem to generate much interest in this that is fine, I just won’t do it.
In any event I have enjoyed (for the most part) my almost 15 years doing this and meeting some great coaches, players, administrators and you the fans.
Take care and you will still be able to catch me at some athletic contest.
Go Red Devils, Raiders, Crusaders and Saints!
If you have any comments, suggestions, or want to report scores, please contact me via email at: sports@wlbg.com .
