Local Notes

 Clinton HS

  • Baseball: Clinton 19 – Columbia 0 (3)… The Red Devil baseball team hosted the Columbia Capitals last Friday and took a very one-sided 19-0 win over the Capitals… As you may or may not recall, the Red Devils defeated the Capitals in Columbia last Tuesday by a score of 18-0 scoring all their runs in the 1st inning… Very similar in the Friday game as the Red Devils scored 13 runs in the 1st inning and 6 in the 2nd to win the game in 3 innings…The Red Devils simply outhit the Capitals 12-0 with the Capitals having enough miscues so that only 17 of the Red Devils runs were earned… Luke Young and Camden Finley were the only 2 Red Devils with more than 1 hit as they both had 2 hits one of which was triple for both of them… Three different Red Devil pitches each worked 1 inning where they combined to strike out 8 Capitals while walking none and giving up no hits… They were Jayden Glenn, Tanner Finley and Isaac Cane…To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.

Two Sign at Clinton HS Friday (4-4-25)… A pair of student-athletes signed to continue their education and athletic careers at two area schools.

  • Jamirah Rivers signed a letter of intent with Erskine College to continue her education and cheerleading career… She mentioned that she had several academic scholarship offers from other schools, but Erskine was the only one that also offered the chance to continue cheerleading… She plans on majoring in a pre-medical field with the goal of becoming a dental hygienist and then possibly move on to dental school to become a dentist… Good luck and congratulations to her!

  • Tushawan Richardson signed a letter of intent to continue his education at Newberry College playing football with the Wolves… He said that he had had conversation with other smaller schools around the area including PC but he just felt like Newberry would be the best fit for him after visiting and talking with the coaches there… Richardson was a two sports star at Clinton not only quarterbacking the football team but also having outstanding seasons on the basketball team… When asked if anyone recruited him for basketball, he replied a few junior colleges and DII schools expressed and interest, but he wanted to play football more than basketball… He said there was a remote possibility he might try to walk-on the basketball team at Newberry, but he wanted to concentrate on football first and then see how it went… When asked about his most memorable moment at Clinton HS without a pause he replied winning the State Class AAA Football Championship this past season was it… He is planning on majoring in sports management to try to stay involved with athletics after he graduates… Congratulations to Tushawan and Good Luck both on the field and in the classroom!

Laurens

  • Baseball: Raiders 11 – Vikings 1(6)… The Raiders traveled to Emerald HS to take on the Vikings and came home with an 11-1 win to completer a sweep of the Vikings last week… The Raiders did it by simply outhitting the Vikings 10-3 with Zay Pulley, Logan Martin and Brayden Patterson each getting 2 hits in the game… All of the Viking hits were singles while Pulley and Bennett Edwards each had a double for the Raiders… The Raiders led 6-1 after 4 innings of play and broke the game open in the 6th inning scoring 5 runs and then holding the Vikings scoreless to end the game on the 10-run rule… The Raiders also had their track shoes on as they stole 7 bases in the game with Ben Willis getting 2 of them… Rylan Paxton pitched the first 4 innings and picked up the win with Ben Willis pitching the last 2 innings…To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.

  • Baseball: Ware Shoals 14 – Saints 1… The Saints baseball team traveled over to Ware Shoals last Friday to take on the Hornets… Once again, the Saints must have left their wasp / Hornet spray at home as the Hornets took a 14-1 win in 5 innings… They simply outhit the Saints 13-2 and the Saints did have a few errors so that only 8 of the Hornets runs were earned…. The Hornets also had 5 doubles and a triple among their hits while the Saints managed just 2 singles against the Hornets… Parker Workman had a single in the 3rd inning that drove in the Saints only run… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.

Local Notes

 Clinton HS

  • Softball: Clinton 18 – Columbia 0… The Red Devil softball team traveled down to Columbia HS yesterday also to take on the Capitals and the only information I have on that game at this time is that the Red Devils took and 18-0 win in 4 innings… If I get more information on this game, I will bring it to you later.
  • Up Next in Softball… The Red Devils will be traveling to Laurens to take on the Raiders today.
  • Baseball: Red Devils 18 – Capitals 0 (3)… The Red Devil baseball team traveled to Columbia HS yesterday to take on the Capitals… In my 50 years of either umpiring or covering baseball this game was the most one-sided game in the shortest amount of time I have ever known about on the highs school varsity level as the Red Devils defeated the Capitals 18-0 in just 3 innings… The Red Devils scored all their runs in the first inning and had only 5 hits in the game with 4 of them in the 1st inning…. How is that possible you ask… Three Capital pitchers gave up 16 walks, a few wild pitches and hit batters to go along with 2 Capital errors and you can get that kind of result… No Red Devil had over 1 hit, but Owen Glenn’s was a 3-run homer… It also helps when the Zack Lawson and Collin Lollis pitched those 3 innings and not only gave up no hits or runs but also struck out all 9 batters they faced… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here
  • Up Next in Baseball… The 7-4 Red Devils will be heading to Strom Thurmond HS to take on the Rebels in non- region action today at 6:00 pm.

  • Baseball: Raiders 11 – Vikings 1… The Laurens Raiders actually hosted the Emerald Vikings yesterday in region action at Ed Prescott Field and I am pleased to report the Raiders took an 11-1 win in 6 innings… The Vikings scored a single run in the 2nd inning to take the early lead but the Raiders scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning and rolled on to the 11-1 win…The raiders simply outhit the Vikings 11-1 and the Raider runs but one were earned… Five of the Raiders 11 hits were for extra-bases with Logan Martin leading the Raiders at the plate going 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs… Bennett Edwards went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and had 3 RBIs… Grayson Ledford picked up the complete game win striking out 7 and walking just 2… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.
  • Up Next in Baseball… The Raider baseball team was scheduled to travel to Emerald HS today to take on the Vikings at 6:00 pm
  • Softball: Fury 23 – Raiders 7… The news is not as good where the Raider softball team is concerned as they fell to the Fountain Inn Fury 23-7 last night at LDHS… The Fury led 12-3 going into the 7th inning where they scored 11 runs but the Raiders did not “roll over and play dead” as they scored 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to make the final score 23-7… The Fury outhit the Raiders 25-8 and only 20 of their runs were earned as the Raiders had 3 errors in the game… Eight of the Fury’s hits were for extra-bases as they had 6 doubles, a triple and a homer… Only one of the Raiders hits was for extra-bases and that was a 3-run homer by Ashlyn Messer who went 2 for 3 on the night… Carly Edwards and Zealy Martin also has 2 hits each for the Raiders… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here

Thornwell

  • Baseball: Ware Shoals 22 – Thornwell 2 (4)… The Saints baseball team hosted the Ware Shoals Hornets yesterday and they forgot their wasp and hornet spray as the Hornets rolled to a 22-2 win in 4 innings… Simply put, the Hornets outhit the Saints 13-3 and 6 Saint errors and 12 walks issued by 3 Saint pitchers aided the Hornets cause…. Zack Crowe was the only Saint to get more than 1 hit as he went 2for 2 with an RBI… To see the box score of the game click here and to see the scorecard to see how the runs were scored click here.
